Made from the fossilized shell of ammonites, ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone mined on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. The color in the ammolite is a result of thin layers of aragonite. All the spectral colors found in nature can be displayed in ammolite, with thicker layers producing the more common red and green colors, while thinner, more fragile layers produce rarer blues and violets. Due to the fragile nature of ammolite, it is commonly treated with clear epoxy to stabilize it.
With almost the full spectrum of color, this free form ammolite ring reveals the magical nature of this unique gem.
