From the genus Oligopygus, these fossilized sand dollars once lived in the Eocene Epoch, between 55 -34 million years ago. So, it's not surprising that only about 1 out of 3 found are high enough quality for jewelry use. It is said that these stones were once used in the Lost City of Atlantis as currency so they are affectionately called "Mermoney"!
Another high quality stone with a clear image of the sand dollar's five segments, featuring a serrated bezel framed with bead wire.
