Created in the early and middle Miocene Epochs of the Cenozoic Era, around 20 million years ago, this amber is now mostly found in Chiapas, Mexico. As with other varieties of amber, a wide assortment of inclusions is often found in Mexican amber including insects, plant fragments and fungi. Mexican amber is amongst the tropical ambers that have the unique characteristic of fluorescing blue-green under a black light.
From my understanding the red color is the result of it being closer to the surface during the fossilization process which allows the amber to become oxidized resulting in the red color.
This amber is showcased in a flower wire border.
